What are grants? Grants, basically speaking are assistance, usually monetary, that is provided by the government. Private and non-profit organisations also provide grants.

These organisations usually set up a "department" that deals specifically with grants.

It is not there to assist persons who are facing personal financial difficulties. Instead, it is there mainly to assist those who have a goal that will benefit many persons in the long run.

• On the other hand, you are taking a course at this point in time. A "must attend" conference is about to take place somewhere apart from your home environment. Do your research diligently before applying for a grant. Check carefully all of the requirements that are required of you.

Also, make sure that you qualify for the grant that you are applying for. For example, you might fit 99.9% of the requirements that are being asked, but you are still missing that 1% e.g you do not fall under the age category that is being asked.

When you are applying for a grant, do not leave anything up to chance. Be concise about your project.

As with many other grants, there are certain restrictions with the using of the monetary value. For example you might not be able to use half of the money until after a particular date.
