Shop around. Ask your friends and relatives, browse the Yellow Pages, call insurance businesses for general info, and a few for quotations later on. A few trade under their own agents, some through independent companies who offer a range of policies from diverse insurers, others do not use providers at all. The latter sell directly to potential customers over the phone or via the internet.

The student's coverage can drop up to 70% and run the risk of being required to pay a high deductible in the event that you have to see a doctor outside campus. It doesn't mean you will be disqualified when you have a pre-existing disease but you may not be able to get treatment for it.
