Auto Insurance Tips

In the very competitive world of auto insurance, many a players, new and old alike resort to tactics that may not be to your liking or suit your needs. It is thus very important to have a little knowledge on this subject of auto insurance before you go out and buy one. With the rising rates of accidents and the cost of auto insurance being upwardly mobile, it is important to get the best out of your auto insurance at the optimum or lowest price.

The following are a few tips that can help you buy the best suited auto insurance and at the same time save the maximum money on it.

Tip #1 - Before you buy your auto insurance always shop for quotes. Irrespective of whatever you buy, it is always important to have all your cards on the table. Since the market is highly competitive, everyone will tend to give you their lowest quotes enabling you to choose the best suited package at the lowest price. Shopping for quotes online can be great option, since many insurance companies have a web presence and can give you quotes within a few minutes. Compare them on your computer and get the best out of them.

There are people who have knocked of anything from £500 to £1000 on their by just changing companies.

Tip # 2 - Try and increase your 'excess', or 'deductibles'. The excess or deductible is normally the amount you pay for a claim before your insurance makes the contribution. Since most of us do not claim all deductions through the year due to insurance premium escalation, it is wiser to keep the deductible at the lowest and at a comfort level. For example, if you increase your collision deductible from say £200 to £500, you will end up saving 15% to 30% on your annual auto insurance premium.

Tip #3 - While filling out your auto insurance, always drop the collision coverage. Collision coverage covers the repairing cost of damage done to your car regardless of who was at fault. In the event that you drive an older car, always consider dropping collision coverage if your premium works up to more than 10% of the car's value.

Tip #4 - There are certain special discounts available on auto insurance, especially if you have a security alarm, anti-lock brakes or air bags installed in your car. Avail of them, by informing the insurance company of the same.

Tip #5 - Avail of any 'good driver' discounts on you auto insurance premiums if you have been a good driver who has been accident and ticket free for some years now.

Finally, some good advice. Never opt for an auto insurance company that has a bad record in paying out claims. Although they can afford to offer lesser premiums, your money would go down the drain, if you cannot claim when you need the coverage the most.

Hope the above tips come in handy and save you some money.
